4 Advantages to Vectus Laser Hair Removal
Nowadays, laser hair removal isn’t just a luxury for celebrities and socialites. In fact, with the Vectus Laser System by Cynosure, there has never been an easier way to get rid of unwanted body hair. If you’re tired of the irritation and discomfort associated with shaving, waxing, and tweezing…it’s time to give yourself the gift of smooth skin!
For many years, laser hair removal was a painful, complex and time-consuming procedure that produced only limited results. In fact, many of the older laser hair removal systems were only effective on a narrow range of skin types – mostly medium tones. And with some machines sporting a spot size of around 1/10” to 3/8”, a full-back or leg procedure could take hours to complete over the course of as many as 20 separate sessions.
While there many different laser hair removal systems available today, there is only one that truly stands apart – the Vectus Laser Hair Removal System by Cynosure. Here are 4 advantages to the Vectus System.
1. Better Laser Hair Removal Applicators
Boasting a 1/2” x 1/2” spot size for the small treatment applicator, and a 1” x 1.5” spot size for the large treatment applicator, the Vectus Laser can treat any area of the body much more quickly and efficiently. The applicator benefits don’t just stop there. In addition to the increased size, the Vectus Laser distributes laser energy far more evenly than other devices. This means you get a safer, more consistent result across the treated area.
While the number of sessions needed will vary person to person, the large and more efficient Vectus Laser applicators mean less procedure time overall.
2. Safe for All Skin Types
Unlike other hair removal treatments that are only good for very specific skin types, Vectus Laser Hair Removal works all across the board – from fair to medium, to more olive and darker ethnic skin tones. Since there isn’t such a thing as a “one size fits all” treatment, our aesthetic experts can customize a treatment just for you.
The Vectus laser features the FDA-approved Skintel Melanin Reader, which is designed to optimize treatment based upon your specific skin type and ethnicity. This takes the guesswork out of hair removal, making treatment safe for everyone.
3. Ease of Treatment
At Contemporary Health Center, we offer you a money-saving package of 6 treatments for any are of the body. While we’ve found that 6 treatments is the average number of sessions needed for most patients, we also offer one-time and touch-up treatment options. In your consultation, our friendly staff will work with you to help decide the best package to suit your needs.
During the procedure, most of our patients describe feeling a quick “snap” after each pulse of the laser. However, any discomfort usually goes away in just a few seconds due to the Advance Contact Cooling in the Vectus Laser. This patented cooling system protects the top layer of your skin and makes the hair removal procedure much more comfortable.
After your procedure, you may feel a mild sensation around the treated area similar to a sunburn, possibly accompanied by some minor redness. This usually only lasts 2-7 hours, and you can resume all your regular daily activities immediately following your Vectus procedure!
4. Vectus Laser Hair Removal is Affordable
With single treatments starting at just $25 and packages of 6 treatments starting at just $125, Vectus is one of the most affordable hair removal systems available. You can make unwanted body hair a thing of the past after only a few simple, targeted, highly-effective, and affordable treatments.
If you feel that Vectus Laser Hair Removal might be for you, call our office today at 239.333.3345 to schedule your consultation and take the next step to looking and feeling your best!

7 Steps to New Year’s Goal Success
Let’s cut straight to the chase – New Year’s Resolutions get a bit of a bad rap. From failed diets, to putting down nicotine, to the quest for more family time, the Resolution finds far more failure than victory. While it’s true that New Year’s Day is really just the same as any other day in your life, it’s possible to use the turning of a new year as a catalyst for change.
The important thing is to think of your “resolution” as a jumping-off point as opposed to the beginning of a brand new life. Being realistic about your goals, as well as implementing practices that help encourage those goals, can go a long way in helping you complete them. In this final blog entry before the clock strikes “2015,” we’ll take a look at 7 steps to helping you realize your goals for the New Year!
1. One at a Time
Many times, we will find ourselves falling short of goals simply because we’ve set too many of them. Losing 25 pounds, letting go of caffeine dependence, getting more exercise, spending more volunteer hours…these are all great goals. But if you try to start each of these at the same time, you are much less likely to see success in all of them. Instead, work your goals out one at a time. Choose the one that will take the most effort and work on that goal first. Add another goal as the year goes by, and then another when you complete that one. This brings us to our next tip –2. Make a Plan
Imagine taking a cross-country road trip. Let’s say you’re starting in Wilmington, North Carolina and you’re heading all the way to Portland, Oregon. This certainly isn’t the sort of drive you can just wing. You’d need a map, you’d need to know how much fuel you’ll have to purchase, you’d need to know where you could stop to sleep, you’d need to know the cost of hotel rooms along the way, you’d have to get an idea of where you could stop for food. In the same way, making changes to your life is a sort of journey. Set yourself up for success by making a plan. Think about your long-term destination, and think about all the little goals you’ll have to reach along the way. Keep in mind you’ll need to fuel your journey as well as making sure you’re taking care of yourself. A good plan doesn’t only exist in your mind. In fact, you’re way more likely to succeed if you –3. Write It Down
The physical act of writing down your plan tells your subconscious mind that you mean business. Don’t just jot them down on your computer and send them to the printer. Instead, take the time to write your goals down in your own handwriting. Commit to paper the plan you’ve made and review it regularly. While this step of the process will help you to stay on track, accountability is also a huge help in seeing goals to fruition. With that in mind, it’s important that you –4. Talk About It
Once you’ve sorted your goals, made a plan, and committed it to paper, another great practice is to talk about your journey. Get your friends and family excited about your goals and involve them in any way you can. If your brother decides he could benefit from a little more physical exercise, commit to walking the park with him once a week. If your neighbors are excited about the community service you’re planning to do, ask them to join you in organizing a food drive. This accountability can really help along the way as you can rely on support from your loved ones. And while a support system will help you take the steps you need, it’s important to remember that your journey is about –5. Progress, Not Perfection
While some of us can skate through our plans with nary a detour, most of us should expect a few speed bumps along the way. If you deviate from your plan, remember that it’s okay. Get yourself back on track by remembering the progress you’ve already made – even if it’s only been a day! When we “fall off the wagon,” or “back step,” the temptation is to throw hands up and walk away. But don’t fall into the trap of perfection. If you do get stuck, it’s okay. Just remember to –6. Know When You Need Help
If you find yourself in over your head, remember that this is NOT the end. There’s no reason for you to feel embarrassed or overwhelmed. Detours will happen, and when they do, it’s just a matter of correction. However, if you need help, you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it. Talk to your friends and family and ask them to help keep you accountable. Whether it’s a matter of redoubling an effort or just tightening up your routine, an accountability partner should help you get back on track. On that note, it’s also so important to –7. Celebrate Milestones
In the same way we would plot out that cross-country trip with a few stops along the way, you should never pass a milestone without celebration! If you were looking to change your exercise regiment, and two months in this new plan is now just part of your routine – celebrate it. If you were looking to do more volunteer work in your community and a backpack drive was a huge success – celebrate it. If you’re down 25 pounds a bit ahead of schedule – celebrate it. Now, it should be noted that a weight-loss celebration should probably not be celebrated with a layer cake and ice cream, but treating yourself to a movie, a spa day, a new putter, a day-trip to the next city north, or that new gadget you’ve had your eyes on is a great way to reinforce your small successes. At Contemporary Health Center, it’s no secret that our mission is to help you look and feel your best. While you’re making plans for 2015, we’d love to know how we can help. Workarounds for a Busy Life
In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it can be easy to make excuses when it comes to exercise and proper eating – whether it’s that you’re too busy for breakfast or that you just can’t make time to hit the gym. The good news is there are definitely workarounds to the problems that a busy schedule can cause; and it all begins with a change in perspective.
Priorities are a huge part of making changes to your lifestyle. It may sound like an oversimplification, but the beginning of any journey is the decision to embark. Take a moment to be honest with yourself. Ask yourself this question – “What do I want?” If you decide that you want to look or feel better, then you can consider this show on the road!
With that decision in mind, it’s important to make lifestyle changes something you do on purpose as opposed to something you do only when it’s convenient. Let’s take breakfast as a great example. If you love your sleep, or if getting to the office early is important to you, taking the time for a meal can be a real challenge. So what’s the workaround? Change your idea of breakfast. A cup of Greek yogurt, a banana and a slice of toast with almond butter would take less than 5 minutes to prepare and about the same time to eat! Instead of being intimidated by the thought of adding to your already hectic agenda, choose to find an extra 10 minutes in the morning and get your metabolism moving.
Obviously, this solution applies to any mealtime that’s been passed-by in your daily routine. If you don’t have time for lunch, grab something healthy on the go or keep a few small meals close by. Just as important as regular eating is staying hydrated. Work in water breaks as often as you can. Doing so will keep you focused and alert while you slay the dragon of your day!
Exercise can be another point of contention for those of us with a busy workload. Heading to the gym, changing clothes, working out, showering, then changing clothes again is a process which some of us can’t spare the time to get done. So what’s the workaround? Change your idea of exercise. Remember that something is better than nothing. Whether it’s parking a little farther from the entrance to a building, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or walking to the corner store instead of driving, the small steps you make toward a healthier you will turn into leaping bounds in the long-run.
This week’s blog isn’t about spelling answers out for you. Instead, the idea here is for you to rise to the challenge of solving the problems that are holding you back from looking and feeling your best. Nobody knows your life better than you do, and with that in mind, no one will be more effective at beginning life change than you will be! Take some time today to evaluate your current state of being, your priorities and your goals. Make new decisions, new commitments and take new steps toward a new you!
At Contemporary Health Center, we offer a variety of different solutions and therapies that will help you look and feel your best. If you’d like to talk with our friendly staff about the ways we can help you on your journey, or if you’d like to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bloy, call us today at (239)333-3345.

Radiesse Aesthetic Service at CHC
Here at Contemporary Health Center, our mission is to help you look and feel your best. While our bio-identical hormone replacement pellet therapy or Medi Weightloss systems go a long way in helping you feel good, we offer a wide range of other products and services to help you look your best.
One such aesthetic service is Radiesse. This revolutionary product is a volumizing filler that helps to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. An abundance of healthy collagen is what gives your skin a smooth, youthful, supple look. As we age, natural collagen begins to break down. This causes skin laxity, wrinkles and a loss in facial volume, which can make your skin look and feel old.
The good news is, if wrinkles are holding you back from looking your best…Radiesse could be the solution! The best way to refresh your appearance is by replenishing the volume your skin has lost. In doing this, wrinkles are diminished and you can get back the youthful-looking skin you desire. Radiesse volumizing filler is an ideal choice for providing immediate volume correction.
In addition to volumizing, Radiesse also stimulates your body into producing more of its own natural collagen. This is important to note, because Radiesse is the only filler on the market that does this! This combination of effects is both immediate, and long-lasting.
So how does it work?
As soon as it is injected, Radiesse immediately provides a lift to wrinkled skin because of the calcium-based microspheres and gel that comprise the product. Radiesse acts as a sort of scaffold, providing structure as your body is stimulated to grow more collagen.
This natural collagen growth will continue for several months after the injection, which extends the initial effect of Radiesse. In fact, many patients experience correction for a year or more.
If you think Radiesse might be right for you, we encourage you to call our office and set up a consultation with Dr. Bloy and his staff. You can reach us by calling (239) 333-3345. Call today!

Is BHRT an In-Office Procedure?
Here at Contemporary Health Center, our mission is to help you look and feel your best. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a big part of what we do here to fulfill that mission. In addition to being chemically identical to the hormones your body produces, the Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapies here at CHC also offer a higher absorption rate than other types of therapies. But with all these benefits, is BHRT a complicated procedure?
The short answer – no! As you may remember from Doctor Bloy’s other blog posts about BHRT, this treatment only has to be repeated every 4-6 months. As an added bonus, the therapy process is actually extremely easy and takes less time than you might think! Doctor Bloy explains the process in this short video:

Heart Healthy Living
According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Due, in part, to the accessibility we have to less-than-healthy food choices and our collective ability to live sedentary lifestyles while still making a living. Managing your weight, regularly visiting your healthcare professional and keeping an eye on risk factors are important to your cardiovascular well-being. Here are a few more steps you can take toward becoming more heart healthy.
Go Green.
It’s no secret that fruits and vegetables are great for your body. They’re low in calories, rich in dietary fiber and chock full of vitamins and minerals that help your body with its natural processes. With that in mind, it’s important to note that not all fruit and vegetable products are equal. When making fruit and vegetable choices, it’s important to eat them fresh. That means you should be eating it with the fewest number of steps between where it was growing and your plate!Take a good look at labels before you choose produce that’s not fresh. You should avoid canned vegetables that are full of salt, canned fruit (packed in heavy syrup), frozen fruit with sugar added and any vegetables that are fried or breaded.
Get Your Fats Straight.
While some fad diets encourage a low- to no-fat diet, it’s a myth that all fats are equally bad for you. In fact, many foods that are labeled “low fat” are full of sugar, refined carbohydrates and empty calories. It’s true that trans fats and saturated fats aren’t good for you. But dietary fats like monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats can actually lower your cholesterol. It’s heart healthy to limit those bad fats found in things like butter, lard, animal fat and cocoa butter. When you do choose fats, choose monounsaturated fats like the ones found in olive oil or canola oil.
Diet is an important aspect of heart health, but it’s not the only factor to consider. Read on for three more steps toward better heart health.
Get Moving!
Don’t forget that your heart is a muscle. Cell-for-cell, it’s actually one of the strongest muscles in your body. Just like the rest of your muscles, your heart needs good, regular exercise. Curls and bench presses are great for building big pecs and giant biceps, but when it comes to heart-healthy exercise, aerobic activity is key.Activities like jogging, walking, biking or swimming are great choices for keeping physically active. Now, this doesn’t mean you need to run miles every day. But plan on spending between 20 and 45 minutes per day exercising. You should vary your activity level, as well. Try and ramp up the intensity of your workouts a couple times a week for the best cardiovascular results.
It should be noted that some exercise is better than no exercise. Remember that everyone has to start somewhere!
Stress Less.
Stress is one of the worst forces you can apply to your body. Stress invades nearly every aspect of your health – from your mental and emotional health, to your physical well-being. Sometimes, it’s not possible to control the things that are happening around you. But you can control how you deal with those outside factors.Practice good stress management and take an active interest in maintaining a good balance to your life. Look into activities such as meditation, yoga or even martial arts as a way to better handle life’s curveballs.
Cut the Butts.
Did you know that smoking is one of the most preventable causes of premature death in the United States? Besides directly increasing the risk of coronary disease, smoking can also affect OTHER risk factors for heart disease. Smoking decreases your tolerance for physical activity and increases the tendency for your blood to clot when it’s not supposed to.Smoking also decreases your HDL (good) cholesterol, creates a higher risk for arterial diseases and is also a major risk factor for stroke. We go out of our way to eat clean food and drink clean water. It’s also important to breathe clean air.
While there are many products and systems that can help you quit smoking, the most important step is actually deciding to quit. Your lungs actually begin to heal themselves as soon as you stop smoking. And while it can some time to completely remove the effects of smoking, every day you’re smoke-free is a day closer to good heart health.
